Senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Ajibola Basiru on Monday reacted to the terrorist attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State on Sunday, which killed scores of worshippers, leaving many others critically injured.

The lawmaker in the upper legislative Chamber condemned the heinous act, describing it as reprehensible, even as it has shattered the peace of the people of Owo.

In a statement he made available to journalists, the Senate Spokesman wondered the rationale behind the attack on innocent worshippers even without any provocation.

“Why on earth would anyone or group think of attacking innocent worshippers with explosives and also rain bullets on them can only be left to the imagination.

“The gory pictures emanating from the site is horrific, horrendous and nightmarish. It is unbelievable that this crime could be perpetrated by normal humans.”

He called for a thorough investigation of the attack so as to fish out the perpetrators, adding that, it was inhumane and must not be allowed to go without punishment.

“Our government cannot continue to treat the issue of National Security as a matter of politics. There is a need for immediate decentralization of the police structures with the establishment of state police. We cannot continue the blame game over insecurity in our states when the security apparatus are controlled by federal authorities”, the statement added.
