The longest-serving Zamfara monarch, the Emir of Kwatarkwashi in Bungudu Local Government Area of the state, Alh. Ahmad Umar, on Thursday 9th June, 2022, joined his ancestors

In a press statement signed and issued to newsmen in Gusau, the state capital, by Alh. Kabiru Balarabe, Umar, who was the eldest emir died in his palace after a prolonged illness.

He has been buried according to the Islamic injunctions.

Recall that Alhaji Ahmad Umar Mai Kwatarwas was crowned by Sultan Abubakar III on March 17, 1961, and he had been on the throne for 61 years.

In March 2021, he celebrated his 60th year on the throne in a grand style which was graced by prominent traditional leaders in the northern part of Nigeria including the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III.
