The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Abutu Yaro, has said that the command will begin an investigation over extortion allegations levelled against men of the X-Squad.

A Facebook user identified as Arc Edwardz, in a post, accused the police of extorting N103,000 from him on his way to Benin from Lagos along the Benin-Ore Road, which was reported by The PUNCH.

In a swift reaction on Wednesday, the police command in a statement by the Deputy Public Relations Officer, ASP Jennifer Iwegbu, said the CP frowned and condemned the act in its entirety.

The statement read, “The attention of the Edo State Police Command has been drawn to an online report, where one Arc Edwardz, surname unknown, was alleged to have been extorted of his hard-earned money by personnel of the Edo State Police Command along Benin-Ore expressway.

The CP frowns and unreservedly condemns the act. Saddened by the development, he has ordered the Assistant Commissioner in charge of Command X-Squad and the OC CP monitoring unit of the Command to unravel the personnel behind what he simply described as a “shameful act.”
