The Cross River State Chairman of the Labour Party, Ambassador Ogar Osim, has alleged that the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress want to foist a governorship candidate on the party.

He made this known in Calabar on Thursday while reacting to the alleged vote of no confidence passed on him by the organised labour in the state.

According to him, those noises are sponsored by groups who feel threatened by what Labour Party is doing in the state. They went and gathered, deceiving people that they are the owners of the Labour Party, and conducted illegal primaries.

“Labour Party is owned by the people who attend meetings. Across the nation, the NLC mobilises for the Labour Party, but here in Cross River, the NLC wants to dictate what happens. They want me to adopt Ernest Jones to justify their illegal actions. They want me to adopt an illegal candidates’ list,” he said, adding that the list of the party’s candidates for various positions was already with the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Osim further stated that the “Labour Party is serious in this election. The NLC in the state has presented themselves as fighting against Labour Party. I want to state categorically that they cannot impose any candidate on Labour Party, their vote of no confidence is laughable. Come 2023, this state will be branded the Labour Party state.”
