ENTRACO operatives have been seen in most cases dragging steering wheels with both stationary and moving vehicles and Imolites have called on the state government to ensure that these operatives get enough training that will change their narrative of ‘mere touts’.

With Imo State Government doing everything possible to ensure the rumoured strike by Bus Drivers in the state does not hold, citizens have called for reforms in ENTRACO.

Government agencies and leaders of Drivers’ Unions have taken to various radio stations to calm the situation and commend Sen. Hope Uzodinma for his commitment to bettering the lives of motorists.

Guest  callers in such programs have told these officials that they are going about things the wrong way.

A caller at Ozisa FM on Tuesday morning said that instead of focusing on how real or fake the strike memos are, the leaders of the bus drivers’ association should focus on finding ways to end the suffering of drivers by putting an end to the harassment they go through in the nads of the ENTRACO operatives.

The callers blamed the issue on the fact that some of these association leaders are not bus owners, but mere collectors of union levies who would do everything possible to ensure their daily revenues are sustained.

Another called for the training of ENTRACO operatives and the numbering of their uniforms so that it will be easy for both divers and citizens to identify and report defaulters to appropriate authorities.

Another driver who spoke with OtownGist said that the strike would have caused untold hardship for both drivers and passengers, but maintained that the threat alone is a huge statement.

“Now the government knows it is possible for us to go on strike and that is why they are running around to stop it. As much as I don’t know the source of the initial rumour, I still appreciate everything that happened because the government will now sit up if they really want to be serious”, the driver said.

The dragging of steering wheels with drivers have always put the lives of driver, operatives, and passengers in danger, while most drivers have always bemoaned the collection of illegal fines by these operatives.

So far in Owerri bus drivers are going about their activities with no harassment from anyone trying to implement the rumoured strike.
