Seven out of the 17 private Colleges of health technology in Gombe State shut down as a result of poor standards, have been re-opened by the State government.
Barrister Zubairu Mohammed Umar, the chairman of a special committee and State’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, made the disclosure on Monday after the State executive council meeting.
Based on an assessment of the courses they offered and their accreditation statuses, the Attorney-General explained that the colleges were re-opened.
He said that seven of the colleges were found to meet the minimum requirement and were certified by the committee to continue with academic activities after the exercise
He said, “The other 10 colleges were found to be operating below standard and will remain closed until they meet the standard to operate in the State.”
He enjoined students from those yet to be re-opened to relocate to the schools approved and certified by the committee.
The re-opened schools, according to him are: Fountain College of Health, Science and Technology, Tunfure, Performance College of Health, Science and Technology, Billiri, Garkuwa College of Health, Science and Technology, Gombe and Lamido School of Hygiene, Liji.
The Commissioner gave the names of the rest as Ummah College of Health, Science and Technology, Gombe; Dukku International College of Health, Science and Technology and Haruna Rasheed College of Health, Science and Technology, Dukku.
