Following the security challenges confronting the nation, the Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Usman, has appealed to Nigerians not to panic, assuring that the force was making efforts to tackle the menace.
IGP Alkali spoke at the Police Mobile Force Training College, Ende Hills in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa State on Thursday, during the graduation ceremony of 324 police personnel who were trained in Explosive Ordinance Disposal – Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear technique.
He explained that the 324 personnel who are attached to the EOD-CBRN Command of the Nigeria Police Force, were trained to effectively perform Improved Explosive Devices disposal.
The police chief noted that the trainees has acquainted themselves with safety and security guidelines in EOD-CBRN operations as well as the emerging global threats and mitigation strategies.
The IGP who was represented by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Federal Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja, Bala Ciroma, said, “Every facet of our national life calls for solutions to tackle the manace of insecurity in the country, and the peril of insecurity no doubt calls for a novel approach to manage it effectively.
“This training is aimed at improving and reinvigorating EOD-CBRN operations across the country by ensuring that adequate skilled personnel are available to fight against the internal insecurity in the country, and the 324 participants have been exposed to current methods and methodology in combating threats associated with terrorism.
“I, therefore, urge all the successful trainees to use the knowledge acquired to stem the tide of unlawful use of explosives, chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear materials, to perpetuate crimes in nooks and crannies of Nigeria.”
On his part, the Commissioner of Police in-charge of the Explosive Ordinance Disposal – Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Command, Zannah Shettima, expressed gratitude to the IGP for the approval and funding for the 19A EOD-CBRN basic training.
While urging the 324 newly trained personnel to work closely with other security agencies in order to swiftly tackle crime in the country, CP Shettima warned the personnel against engaging in corrupt practices adding that, anyone found wanting will be sanctioned according to the laid down laws.
“In view of the current security challenges, I urge you all to have a cordial working relationship with other security agencies at all times. The command alone cannot work in isolation, hence the need to synergize with sister agencies for crime to be brought to its bearest minimum.
“Also, you all should avoid all forms of corrupt practices as anyone found wanting will be kicked out of the command without delay. So, you are advised to be disciplined, dedicated and diligent to duty as well as display high sense of professionalism when performing your duties”, CP Shettima added.
One of the trained personnel who spoke on behalf of the others, SP Phebe Danbaki, thanked the IGP and the Commissioner of Police for organizing the training, promising to use the skills they had gathered to secure the nation from all kinds of threats.
The Nigeria Police Force had on July 7th, 2022, graduated 192 personnel who were also trained in Explosive Ordinance Disposal – Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear technique, at the same training college in Nasarawa state.
