The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, says it has begun the gradual restoration of power supply since 00.34hrs today in the South East.
This is following the suspension of the strike embarked upon on Wednesday by the Nigerian electricity workers under the umbrella of the National Union of Electricity Employees and Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Workers.
Its Head of Corporate Communications, Emeka Ezeh, said the restoration of power supply was a result of the decision reached by the NUEE and the ministers of labour yesterday evening at a meeting.
The NUEE had, on Tuesday, asked its members nationwide to mobilize immediately for serious picketing of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) headquarters and stations nationwide.
The union, among other things, had cited the stigmatization of staff from the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation from working in other areas of the power sector and the directive by the TCN Board over promotion interviews.
It also complained about the refusal of the market operator to fund the payment of entitlement of ex-Power Holding Company of Nigeria’s staff after the December 2019 agreement.
Ezeh added that before noon today, “all EEDC outgoing feeders would have fully been restored.”
