A Magistrate court sitting in Port Harcourt has granted bail to a Port Harcourt based Legal practitioner who was arraigned on five counts of forgery and making a purported court document.

Presiding Magistrate, Poromon Menenen granted the lawyer bail in the sum of three million naira with a surety in like sum following the bail application filed by defence counsel who sighted authorities to back his claims.

Chief Magistrate Menenen directed that the surety must have properties worth three million within the jurisdiction of the court.

He adjourned the suit till 1st of November for trial.

According to a charge read out in court, the lawyer is alleged to have on the 18th of July, 2022, forged a court order in the name of a Magistrate court of Rivers State.

The lawyer is also alleged to have without lawful authority made a purported court document with the name of a non-existent Senior Magistrate J. I Amadi which was purported to have been processed by the Principal Registrar.

The offences are punishable under the criminal code laws of Rivers State.
