As the world celebrated the international day of democracy, Alliance For Africa (AFA) in collaboration with CISLAC and MacArthur have urged the Imo State House of Assembly to consciously legislate on laws that will ensure the inclusion of women, persons with disabilities and youths in the electoral process.
Speaking during the Imo State road walk campaign to demand social inclusion of women, youths, persons living with disabilities and the vulnerable in governance, Lilian Ibeh called on the members of the House to deliberate more on passing laws that will make the participation of women, youths, persons living with disabilities and vulnerable a right and not a privilege or favour.
She noted that there should be an adequate elective representation of women, youths, and persons living with disabilities and the vulnerable in the House and the State.
She added that the issue of treating the vulnerable as second-class citizens must be jettisoned for a holistic and all-inclusive governance structure where everyone is free to participate without inhibition informed by the state of the individual.
Ibeh insisted that lawmakers cannot conveniently make laws for the vulnerable without the input of those concerned.
The Speaker, represented by the Chief of Staff, Kelechi Onyegbule, however, called on the women, youths, and persons with disabilities and the vulnerable to get involved in politics as nobody will do it for them.
