Former Nasarawa Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Musa Ibrahim-Abubakar
has survived a suspected assassination attempt.

He recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) where he won the ticket for the Doma South House of Assembly seat.

The Police Command has commenced an investigation of the incident, assuring that the perpetrators would be arrested.

The Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel told reporters that the politician was attacked on Rukubi – Doma Road.

Ibrahim-Abubakar said it occurred on his way from Rukubi town where he went to donate relief material to flood victims.

“I was returning from Rukubi town to Doma at about 5:30 p.m., around Igbabo village, when about nine gunmen opened fire on me from different directions.

“One of the bullets hit the mobile phone in my breast pocket with another hitting my elbow and my back”, NAN quoted him saying.

Ibrahim-Abubakar recalled he escaped to Igbabo village where the locals helped and took him to the hospital.

He said several bullets have been removed from his body with doctors working to remove one more lodged under the ribs.

The NNPP chieftain added that the attack might be the handiwork of his political opponents.

A similar attack occurred in Anambra this month. Gunmen ambushed the convoy of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, killing his personal and security aides.
