The All Progressives Grand Alliance Senatorial Candidate for Ebonyi South Zone, Mr Ifeanyi Eleje, has urged the Ebonyi State Government, under Governor David Umahi, to rearrange and redesign its taxation policies in order to allow businesses to thrive, in the state.

According to the Eleje, Ebonyi State Government has shot itself in the foot with its current tax jurisdiction, saying incidence of capital flight persists as a result of the current trend.

He stated this in an interview with The PUNCH, on Wednesday.

He said, “Business friendly environment is referred to as a tax haven. Dubai in the United Arab Emirates is a living example. It is recognised as the most favourable tax jurisdiction in the world.

“This has been largely responsible for the lightening speed with which Dubai developed as a leading business destination and also a leading world economy.

“I will suggest to the state government to review its policies on taxation to make it attractive to investors and equally importantly loosen the noose around the neck of its citizens.

“Luckily the governorship candidate of the APGA in the state, is a convert in this thinking and has been espousing his thoughts on this at any giving occasion.

“I think the government of Ebonyi State shot itself in the foot with its current tax jurisdiction.”

Recall that experts including the governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party for the 2023 general elections in Ebonyi State,  Chris Adol-Awam, had lamented high taxation in the state.
