Ada Priscilla Nzimiro was a trained medical doctor with family roots in Oguta, in present-day Imo State.

She completed her studies in 1950 at the University of Glasgow and earned her Bachelor of Medicine, but sadly died before she could collect her degree in Bachelor of Surgery.

She was the first woman from Igboland to graduate as a medical doctor

Nzimiro came to Glasgow in 1945 to study Medicine and while at the University, she was active in the Glasgow University’s African Students’ Union.

She was regarded as the first woman to be an office-holder and a president of the society in 1947.

Nzimiro died on 22 March 1951 at the age of 27.

According to medical records, Nzimiro died of pulmonary embolism at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
