Zamfara State police command has arrested 41-year-old Sa’adu Lawal, a former Army officer.
DAILY POST reports that it recovered one AK 47 riffle, No 0971987 and one AK49 riffle, No 347094 from the suspect.
According to the State’s police spokesman, SP Mohammed Shehu, other items recovered include 5017.62x51mm rounds of GPMG live ammunition and empty magazines.
“On behalf of the Commissioner of Police Zamfara State Command, Mr. Kolo Yusuf, we will parade a notorious kidnapper who specializes in armed robbery, kidnapping, gun-running and other heinous crimes that have for long been disturbing the peace and security of Zamfara State and neighbouring Katsina, Kaduna, Niger, Kebbi and Sokoto States.
“On 27th August, 2022, at about 1730hrs, Police Tactical/Escort Team attached to the Commissioner of Police Zamfara State Police Command, Mr. Kolo Yusuf acted on actionable intelligence that led to the arrest of the above named suspect who was an ex-service personnel of the Nigeria Army attached to 73 Battalion Janguza Army Barracks, Kano.
“The suspect was intercepted with a Pontiac Vibe vehicle with registration number KRD 686 CY Lagos, along Abuja – Kaduna, enroute Zamfara State. Search was conducted on the spot and the above mentioned exhibits were recovered in his possession.
“On the course of interrogation, the suspect confessed that he was to convey the said exhibits from Loko Local Government Area of Nasarawa State to his customer, one Dogo Hamza of Bacha village in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
“The suspect further confessed that he had previously supplied same consignment to his other customers in Kaduna, Katsina, Niger and Kebbi States, respectively.
Discreet investigation is in progress with a view to arresting his partners in this dastardly crime,” he said.
According to the State police spokesman, the suspect would be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction as soon as investigations are concluded.
