As arrangements for next year’s general election builds up, the Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone Six, Okunlola Kola Kamaldeen, has sought closer collaboration with the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) of the Nigerian Navy to share critical intelligence to stem possible upsurge of coastal and electoral crimes.
He made the call when he met the Flag Officer Commanding ENC, Rear Admiral I. A. Dewu at his headquarters in Calabar.
The two security chiefs in their deliberations agreed to share intelligence and co-operate on policing the coastal area to stop the influx of small arms/light weapons, sea robbery, kidnapping, child trafficking and cultism in the Zone.
They also agreed to synergize through joint operations and training programmes.
They disclosed that the synergy will checkmate inter-agency rivalry amongst personnel of the two organizations.
Further in a statement signed on behalf of the AIG by the zonal PRO, Superintendent Nelson Okpabi, it said the two security bosses had also resolved to effectively exercise their oversight functions over their areas of responsibility.
The AIG averred that it will ensure common objective of ensuring peace and security reign in the country for the citizens to go about their businesses without fear of intimidation.
