The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has declared that stiff sanctions await any party member involved in anti-party activities.
This is as the party warned that the expulsion of Dotun Babayemi and his subsequent defeat at the Supreme Court should serve as lessons to other anti-party activists within the party.
This was made known in a statement by Adekunle Akindele, the Osun PDP caretaker chairman, after receiving leaders of the PDP from Ayedaade local government over the weekend.
In the statement made available to DAILY POST on Monday in Osogbo, Akindele revealed that the party stated that it was resolved to enforce discipline within its rank and file even as he commends Babayemi’s ward for doing the needful by rooting out the expelled politician.
While noting that Babayemi was granted a long rope to hang himself, he said the obstinately defiant behaviour of the expelled Babayemi only confirmed that he was indeed sent on a mission to destroy the PDP.
“Let me put on records that we never expect any regret from Mr Babayemi as he was a self-confessed spy while in our party. We also did not solicit his poisoned advice on how to govern Osun state. The statewide celebration of the Supreme Court judgement is an overwhelming congratulations to the Governor-elect. So who needs shameless well-wishers from a drowned politician?
“Today, on behalf of the state leadership of the party, I commend our ward leadership for acting promptly by expelling the disgraced double agent who failed miserably in his evil assignment. Your action at the ward level was well thought out, and we call on other ward leaders to monitor and act on any other fingered mole within their areas.”
Dotun Babayemi, who was a factional gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in the Osun gubernatorial election, was expelled by the ward leadership of the party in his Ward 2 in Gbongan town, Ayedaade local government area of Osun State.
The Supreme Court on Thursday, September 29, 2022, ruled against his candidature of the PDP in the Osun guber poll and affirmed that Ademola Adeleke was the duly recognised PDP gubernatorial candidate in the poll.
The same day, the Osun PDP, in a statement signed by Adekunle Akindele, the party caretaker chairman, announced the expulsion. Of Dotun Babayemi from the party for alleged anti-party activities.
