A 51-year-old man, Oluranti Badejo, has reportedly beaten his wife, Folashade Badejo, to death in Mowe, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Ogun police spokesman, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday.
According to Oyeyemi, the suspect was arrested after the matter was reported at Mowe Divisional Police Headquarters by a younger sister of the deceased wife.
The complainant had reported that she got information from her elder sister’s daughter that the woman, who lived with her husband at 7, Madam Felicia Street, Orimerunmu in Mowe, “has been beaten to death by her husband.”
Acting on the report, the DPO of Mowe division, SP Folake Afeniforo, was said to have quickly sent detectives to the scene, where the suspect was arrested.
“The lifeless body of the victim was there and then evacuated to the mortuary in Shagamu for post-mortem examination.”
Preliminary investigation, DAILY POST learnt, revealed that “the suspect strangled the deceased during a scuffle as a result of minor disagreement.”
Oyeyemi spoke further that when the husband realized that he had killed his wife, “he used hot iron to burn parts of the body of the deceased, so as to look as if she was electrocuted.”
However, he said their eight-year-old daughter witnessed the whole thing; saying “it was the daughter who testified seeing her father strangulating her deceased mother to death.”
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, had directed that the suspect be taken to the Homicide section of the State CIID for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
