The Imo State Government thru the task force committee on desilting has began the desilting of drainages in Owerri metropolis.

Work has commenced on the cleaning of the gutters as the government has encouraged Owerri residents to support the initiative of the government to promote a safe environment.

Mornitoring the desilting exercise, Nze Chinasa Nwaneri, Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties who also doubles as the Chairman task force committee on desilting called on Imolites resident in Owerri to support the efforts of the government in promoting a health environment so as to curtail and checkmate the spate of flooding in the state capital.

The exercise is currently ongoing at various locations in the state capital as efforts are being expedited to extend it to other parts of the state in order to clear all the blocked waterways that give rise to perennial flooding witnessed in the state capital.

As part of measures to curtail flooding, the government has mandated all residents to regularly clean up their gutters as those not adhering to the directives will be made to face sanctions.

In addition, the government has also directed that all the gutters must not be covered by anything longer than 10 feet without opening between the gutters.
