The Japanese Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, has sympathised with the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), over rising cases of floods across the country.

The PUNCH had reported how severe floods have claimed many lives and affected millions in the country especially in Anambra, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi States, among others.

Kishida’s message is contained in a letter to Buhari, a statement signed by the President’s spokesman, Femi Adesina, revealed on Wednesday.

The statement is titled, ‘Japanese Prime Minister sends condolence to President Buhari over severe floods.’

The letter read: “The recent floods caused by heavy rainfall in many states in the Federal Republic of Nigeria which have claimed many precious lives and forced many people to evacuate.

”On behalf of the Government and the people of Japan, I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to those who lost their lives and their bereaved families.

”My sympathies are with those who are affected and I sincerely pray for the prompt reconstruction of the affected areas.”
