The National Population Commission(NPC) has disclosed that it has not been able to carry out Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) in Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State owing to insecurity.

However, the Commission said it is currently conducting a Post Enumeration Survey (PES) in selected enumeration areas in six states across six geo-political zones of the country to determine coverage and content errors of the just concluded Trial Census.

Executive Chairman of NPC, Nasir Isa Kwarra, made the statement on Thursday, at a media parley in Abuja, where he assured that the Commission would conduct “accurate, reliable and acceptable census that will be adjudged relevant in the drive towards sustainable national development.”

He also revealed that the Commission has successfully demarcated 773 LGAs in all the States of the Federation and the FCT.

He noted that the Commission has conducted the first and the second census pre-test exercises as well as the Trial Census to test the census instruments and the Commission’s readiness in preparation for the 2023 Census.

“The demarcation of the remaining one LGA of Abadam (Borno State) which has not been demarcated as a result of security challenges will soon start,” he noted.

He said the Commission is on course in its statutory mission of delivering the most credible and acceptable census in Nigeria’s history.

Kwarra, therefore, solicited the support and partnership of the media in the publicity and advocacy of the census, adding that the media remain indispensable to the success of census exercise.

He said: “In all of this journey, we don’t pretend that we have the magic wand and can go it alone.

“As a data- generating agency of government, after our development partners that assist us with both technical and financial back up in carrying out our functions, the next most important allies, in our considered opinion, are you, our friends in the media, without whose reportage of every stage of our activities, our efforts will come to naught.”
