The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to, as a matter of urgency, set up a high powered independent investigation committee to immediately investigate the complexity of the Nigerian National Petroleum Limited and her successive Group Managing Directors; Ministry of Petroleum Resources and her successive Ministers; likewise the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and her successive CG, including the Oodua Peoples Congress who have once been given pipeline monitoring contract from 1999 till date.

The country has, of recent, been battling activities of oil thieves and pipeline vandals that have crippled oil export.

Isah Abubakar, National President, Northern Youth Council of Nigeria, said this in a statement issued in Kaduna on Tuesday and made available to DAILY POST.

The group lamented oil theft in a country where there is a functional government mechanism, alleging that it looks like a conspiracy by the major actors to sabotage the economic interest of the nation.

The group called for the prosecution of anyone found culpable irrespective of class or connection, saying it would resist anything short of that.

The statement called on the National Assembly to also as a matter of urgency set up an investigatory committee that would get to the root of crude oil theft in Nigeria with a view of arresting the situation.

In order to find lasting solution, the youths noted, “The Presidency must call back all the GOC of 6 Division and GOC of Operations Delta Save from the time of establishment to date to answer questions as regard to crude oil theft in Nigeria.”

The statement explained that the youths of Northern extraction and other youth leaders will work together to see that these demands are met.

The group urged Nigeria youths to get prepared for a call to action if the demands are not met by the government within the shortest time.
