The Federal Government has directed the Niger Delta Development Commission to urgently intervene over the bad state of Ahoada West-Mbiama axis of the East West road.

The road has recently been cut into two parts due to the ravaging flood is the area.

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Umana Okon Umana, gave the charge during his visit to to the area to ascertain the level of damage done by the flood.

He also directed the NDDC to ensure the provision of “relief materials to flood victims” in affected local government areas.

The Minister said the federal government “acknowledges” the development as an “emergency” situation and therefore has directed relevant agencies to ensure that “appropriate actions are taken to arrest” the situation.

Umana also disclosed that the Federal Government has asked the agency responsible for flood management to establish “a situation room” where they can gather information from Nigeria on the flood issue.

The Minister, who was in company of the Acting Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, Emmanuel Audu Ohwavborua, also visited some internally Displaced Persons Camps in the area.
