Tottenham boss, Antonio Conte has revealed that some of his players are now saving their legs for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.
He said some of them would say they were tired and could not play. He hailed England captain Harry Kane, who, despite being ‘really, really tired’, made himself available against Nottingham Forest last night.
Kane featured for Tottenham on Wednesday in their defeat against Nottingham Forest, and he played 59 minutes at the City Ground.
Conte, however, noted that the hectic fixture list is taking a toll on the players.
He said while “Other players … could tell me, ‘I’m tired and don’t want to play and help the team,’ Kane was readily available.
“When I speak, I have a group of players who are men and then good players, and because of this. Another could be selfish and think for himself because in one week, they have to play the World Cup.
“Instead, Harry Kane showed to be a really good man. But the same for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur and Ivan Perisic and Eric Dier, another who played a lot of games.”
The defeat to Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup means that the North London club have lost two matches in a row after falling 2-1 to Liverpool over the weekend.
Conte would hope to bounce back to winning ways when they tackle Leeds United in the Premier League on Saturday before the World Cup break.
