The guber candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ebonyi State, Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, has said the mandatory N5 million refundable fee required before parties can make use of public schools, markets and other public facilities in the state is unconstitutional and undemocratic.

He said this while speaking to newsmen on Sunday after a thanksgiving service organised by Senator Obinna Ogba, representing Ebonyi Central zone, at his hometown, Nkalagu community in Ishielu local government area of the state.

Odii vowed to resist the restrictions of campaigns in schools and market squares across the state by the state government.

“The electoral acts which ordinarily supersedes any other law stated it very clear that public facilities should be used during the electioneering period.

“I know that at the end of the day, we will not allow it because it’s unconstitutional. Anything that you are doing that is unconstitutional will not be allowed,” he stated.

Odii also spoke on the lingering legal tussle between him and Senator Obinna Ogba over the governorship ticket of PDP, which has been laid to rest by the Supreme Court, which ruled in his favour, said there was no victor, no vanquished in the ticket tussle.
