Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has said it is a disappointment that Gabriel Magalhaes was dropped from Brazil’s squad for the 2022 World Cup.

Arteta has, however, urged the defender to use it as motivation to “improve”, so he could “be ready” for the next tournament.

Gabriel’s teammates at the Emirates, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli, both made the cut, however.

But Selecao manager Tite opted to call up Thiago Silva, Gleison Bremer, Eder Militao and Marquinhos instead of Gabriel.

“For Gabi, it is a disappointment, but when you look at the squad that they have and the experience they have in that position, you have to understand that and it’s another challenge for him.

“He needs to be ready for the next one, he needs to improve and carry on with the good things that he’s been doing,” Arteta said.

Brazil begins this campaign against Serbia on November 24, before they play Switzerland and Cameroon in Group G.
