The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Akwa Ibom chapter, Pastor Umo Eno has urged the people not to be carried away by vague promises, rhetoric and populism by some candidates seeking to score cheap political points in the 2023 elections.
He said they should rather consider competence and pragmatism in making a choice of their candidate.
Eno stated this on Tuesday during the party’s governorship flag-off campaigns held at the Nest of Champions International Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital.
He said, “Fellow Akwaibomites, this election is beyond populism, rhetoric and vague promises but pragmatism, capacity and making hard choices.
“It is your choice to have a proven leader who has created jobs for many of our youths versus those who only use the youths for thuggery and violence when it suits their selfish purposes.”
In his speech entitled, “My contract with Akwa Ibom people”, the guber candidate said he would run an issue based campaigns devoid of propaganda, blackmail and mudslinging where peace, security and all round development witnessed in the State would be sustained.
He added, “This election is about humility, and Godliness and the need to respect our common humanity and govern with Christian values, versus those who see power as a sense of entitlement. Power is given to those whom God has qualified and not those who arrogantly qualify themselves.”
Also Speaking, the governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel said Akwa Ibom would never go back to the dark ages where its leader was only interested in the treasury of the State and money.
Emmanuel said God glorified PDP in 2015, 2019 and would glorify the party again in 2023, saying the journey was about God and the destiny of Akwa Ibom State.
He charged the people to vote for the PDP at the Presidential, State, and Senatorial district levels during the 2023 elections, saying as a man of integrity, he promised not to contest as a senator for Akwa Ibom South senatorial district and has kept to his word, even when a delegation came to urge him to contest.
While presenting the PDP flag to the party’s governorship candidate and his deputy, State Chairman of PDP, Mr Aniekan Akpan said the State has always been PDP since 1999 and would continue to be even in 2023.
