Some leaders of Orile-Ilawo community in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State have engaged one another in a bloody clash over a N50,000 donation.

It was gathered that the members of the Orile Ilawo Community Development Association (CDA) and a seceding group fought one another with cutlasses over the N50,000 donated by an undisclosed person.

About four persons were said to have sustained injuries in the incident that caused tension within the community recently.

But, the Olu of Orile Ilawo-elect, Professor Olusegun MacGregor, has reconciled the warring factions, warning them not to tolerate any breakdown of law and order within the community.

At a peace meeting convened by MacGregor on Friday, the two factions revealed that the clash was as a result of a long-standing rivalry between the main CDA known as the ‘Omo Ilu’ and the breakaway faction, which dated back to 2012.

The groups had blamed the renewed bloody clash on how the N50,000 was shared unfairly.

According to a communique signed at the end of the peace meeting, it was said that, “Both parties accused each other of betrayal and selfishness on in the conduct and management of the CDA affairs.”

It was gathered that the lack of cooperation between the two groups brought about physical confrontations that left one member of the recognised CDA with a deep cut on his hand.

In retaliation, the other group mobilised to confront their opponents and this, they explained, resulted in a free-for-all.

“Injuries were sustained by three members from the faction and one person from the recognised CDA,” a source said.

However, the intervention of MacGregor, DAILY POST learnt, has restored peace among the community leaders as they promised never to engage in further violence within and outside the Oke-Ona community.

They said that the clash had nothing to do with the election of MacGregor as the next monarch of Ilawo.
