The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senatorial candidate in Ogun Central, Olumide Aderinokun, has demanded a probe into the fire attack on the office of the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State.

While expressing shock over the incident, Aderinokun said the incident must not be swept under the carpet as those behind the attack must be brought to book.

Aderinokun in a statement his media aide, Taiye Taiwo, condemned the attack on the INEC facility, lamenting the destruction of over 60,000 permanent voters cards and other non-sensitive electoral materials, including ballot boxes and cubicles.

“It is a barbaric act that should be condemned in all forms. The burning of the INEC office in Abeokuta South is not just a threat to credible elections, but a threat to security of lives and properties in the Ogun State capital.

“The attack should be a wake-up call for security agencies to be steadfast and assure INEC that their facilities and equipment are safe and also to Nigerians, that we can go out to cast our votes next year without any fear of insecurity,” he said.

The Ogun Central senatorial hopeful asked the Ogun State government to expose whoever is behind the attack, saying that “the security situation of the State is becoming fragile, whoever is behind this attack must be brought to book.”

While thanking God that no human casualty was recorded in the inferno, Aderinokun encouraged INEC not to be deterred in its commitment to conduct free and fair elections in 2023.

“The evil agents have carried out their damage, but I urge INEC not to relent and respond by fast tracking the reproduction of the destroyed PVCs for our people not to be defranchised next year,” he pleaded.
