The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, on Thursday, called for prayers for men and officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
He said given the prevailing security challenges in the country, the police had become endangered species and needed prayers for protection and guidance.
The IGP spoke in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, while commissioning the administrative block for the 26 Squadron Police Mobile Force and a 1.7km internal road network at Mopol Barracks, Idoro Road, Uyo, the state capital, which was completed by the Niger Delta Development Commission.
He said, “What I’m seeing is a church and the other a mosque; policemen are becoming too religious these days, and that is good; any person who does not know how to pray will go to hellfire; these days, you know, we are endangered species; we need to pray and protect ourselves well.”
While appreciating the commanding officer for the initiative and courage to find the means and ways of completing the project, the IG commended the NDDC for facilitating the completion of the projects, which were abandoned.
The Acting Managing Director of NDDC, Emmanuel Ohwavboura, stated in his remarks that the agency, in recognition of Section 6 of the police force mission statement and partnership, took over the construction of the dilapidated projects and awarded the contract to Messrs. God’s Owned Project Limited when the police sought their assistance.
Audu, who was represented by the Akwa Ibom State Director of NDDC, Udoette Obot, revealed that the police post project at Osongama Extension, which was at 80% completion stage, would soon be commissioned and urged members of the public to protect and make good use of the facilities.
