The Cross River State Police Command says eight out of the nine passengers kidnapped by gunmen along the Calabar-Ikom highway on Tuesday, November 15, have been rescued.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, who confirmed this development, said that eight of the victims were now in safe hands while the ninth person escaped and that efforts are being made to locate the passenger.

The spokesperson dismissed claims that the abduction was carried out by herdsmen. She added that the incident was purely a case of armed robbery.
