The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Abia State, Chief Ikechi Emenike, on Wednesday in Umuahia inaugurated his campaign council, comprising 1,740 members with a promise to liberate the state.
He said it was time for all citizens of the state to join the liberation movement.
Emenike charged council members to double their efforts to achieve a landslide victory for the party in 2023, “as the liberation battle would not be easy given that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, has been in power for over two decades, and having entrenched their vicious roots across the state.”
He added, “We must work as one to achieve victory as if 1,740 people join their hands together to work, the job of liberating Abia will be done.
“Our mission and aspiration are for the development of Abia, and God will help us lift Abia. What we are doing is a divine mission.”
In her speech, the deputy governorship candidate, Rev Gloria Akara, urged members of the campaign council and all party faithful to dedicate their energy, time and resources to drive “the wheel of progress.”
Party chieftains who spoke at the event, including a former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Emeka Wogu; and Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Martin Azubuike, pledged their support to the governorship candidate to make the party take over the control of Abia.
Earlier, the state chairman of APC, Dr Kingsley Ononogbu, explained that members of the campaign council were carefully selected and trusted “worthwhile soldiers” who would lead the charge in all nooks and crannies of Abia, adding, “We are very determined to rescue and develop Abia.”
