The All Progressives Congress in Osun State said some hoodlums allegedly working for the Peoples Democratic Party in the state attacked one of its drivers, Nurudeen Owolanwi, in Osogbo on Sunday.

Owolanwi was said to be wearing headgear with campaign messages for the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, when he was attacked, according to a statement from the party’s Director of Media, Kola Olabisi, which was obtained in Osogbo.

The statement read in part, “The latest victim of the needless attack of the PDP thugs is Nurudeen Owolanwi, a driver at the state headquarters of the APC in Osogbo, who was physically assaulted, dehumanised and had the four tyres of his vehicle punctured by the rampaging PDP hoodlums.

“It was learnt that Owolanwi was chased right from the front of Osogbo Grammar School by some PDP thugs who were operating from a Sienna mini-bus around 8.30am on Friday for adorning Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidential election cap.

“Owolanwi stated that he was caught up and his vehicle was double-crossed in front of First Bank at Station Road, Osogbo, where the PDP thugs ordered him and all other occupants of his vehicle down.

“The principal victim of the needless political violence disclosed that he, together with the occupants of his vehicle, were beaten to a pulp while all four tyres of his vehicle were deflated by the rampaging PDP hoodlums.

While reacting, the Director of Media for the Osun PDP, Oladele Olabamiji in a statement said, “No PDP member within Osogbo metropolis or any other parts of the state is involved in such an alleged incident. We suspect this report is part of a new campaign of calumny engineered by the defeated forces of yesterday to malign the new government.

“We urge the police to conduct an investigation and, in particular, to question the driver who claimed to have been attacked and the APC spokesperson. Both appear to have information that may help the police in their investigation. This may turn out to be a hoax, a stage-managed prank to heat up the polity.”
