The Niger State Commissioner of Police, Ogundele J. Ayodeji, has disclosed that heads of security agencies met to review the security situation of the state and brainstormed to ensure the successful conduct of the forthcoming general elections.

The state security leaders, according to him, agreed to pool resources for the polls.

The Commissioner of Police stated this shortly after convening the Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) in his office today, 10th January 2023.

Ayodeji explained that the meeting was in compliance with IGP Usman Alkali Baba’s directives towards ensuring adequate security and conducive environment for the 2023 general elections.

According to him: “The meeting is geared towards strengthening cooperation and collaboration among the security agencies saddled with the responsibility of providing security for a free, fair and credible 2023 general elections, with the Nigeria Police Force as the lead agency in election security management.

“The heads of security agencies reviewed security situation of the state and brainstormed on pooling resources such as manpower, vehicles, and other logistics, as well as ensuring strategic deployment of security personnel and operational assets with constant supervision of officers and men from these agencies scheduled for the forthcoming general elections.”

Security agencies present at the meeting include the Military, DSS, NSCDC, Correctional Service, Immigration, Customs, NDLEA, FRSC and Fire Service in the state.
