Two suspected fraudsters, posing as journalists, have landed themselves in trouble after they were arrested by officials of the Kano state police for buying a bag of rice worth N33,000 and making a fake transfer as payment at a plaza in the Sharada area of Kano Municipal. On searching the suspects, whose names were identified as Mujahid Kabir, aged 30, and Abba Imam, also aged 30, personal identity cards of Vision FM, Kano, were found in their possession.

While parading the culprits, the state police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said that after the manager of the plaza in Sharada Quarters informed them of the crime, the police swiftly arrived at the scene to arrest the culprits, who wanted to escape.

After interrogation, the suspects confessed to the police that “they had gone to the Vision FM radio station in Kano, stolen two personnel identity cards, and made fake copies bearing their names and photographs.” They further confessed to having gone to the said plaza at Sharada Quarters, bought a bag of rice, and made a fake transaction with the cashier.”

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police has ordered the case to be transferred to the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID). He admonished residents to be cautious and promptly report suspicious transactions to the authorities.
