Senator Shehu Sani, a former senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, has reacted to the Supreme Court order halting the ban on the usage of the old naira notes, earlier scheduled for February 10 by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). It should be noted that Nigerians have been facing untold hardship as the scarcity of new naira notes bites harder. A visit to banks and ATMs is usually greeted with a large crowd of customers who seem frustrated with the whole process.
Recall that due to the scarcity of new naira notes amidst the policy by the CBN, the governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai, and his colleagues from Zamfara and Kogi states sued the Federal Government in the apex court. As expected, the Supreme Court ordered the halting of the deadline so that citizens could still spend the old naira notes.
However, Senator Shehu Sani thinks that politicians might want to buy votes with the available old notes. In a tweet via his verified Twitter handle, he said, “They want to buy votes with the available old notes.” That’s all”
