Shehu Sani, a human rights activist and former lawmaker, has criticised the comments made by Pa Ayo Adebanjo, the chairman of the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organization Afenifere, advising Nigerians to be prepared for a post-election conflict if Peter Obi does not win the 2023 presidential election.
Adebanjo, addressing at the commemoration of the life and times of the late President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Prof. George Obiozor, in Lagos on Wednesday, stated that if Obi’s presidential quest fails this year, there will be nothing like an unified Nigeria.
Adebanjo, who backed Obi for president in 2022, has maintained that Obi is still the finest choice.
He stressed that Nigerians should vote for Obi as their next president for the sake of equity and fairness, as well as to maintain the country’s unity.
In response to the statement, Shehu Sani tweeted on Thursday that the pan-Yoruba leader can promote his candidate without endangering the country’s unity.
He added that not even the former governor of Anambra State would agree to such a notion.
He wrote: “The revered elder statesman Chief Ayo Adebanjo has the right to promote his preferred Presidential candidate, but it is unworthy of him to threaten the dissolution of our nation if his candidate is not elected. I also do not believe that his candidate will support this.”
