A senior priest of the African Church in Akwa Ibom State, Reverend Richard Peters has urged other candidates who lost in the just concluded governorship elections in the state to sheath their sword of anger and disunity and work with the governor-elect, Pastor Umo Eno for the betterment of the state.

The Cleric who noted that there would always be one winner in every contest further urged them to embrace peace and not to heat up the polity or deliberately work against the incoming government in the State.

Addressing the press on Friday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, Peters advised the opposition to explore the opportunity extended by the governor-elect to them to join hands with him in achieving the desires of the people as he had stated that he bore no grudge against anyone.

According to him, “I am making a passionate appeal to the opposition to embrace peace and join hands with Pastor Umo Eno to take the state to the next level. Being a man of God, the Governor-elect has said severally that he holds no grudge against anyone.”

Speaking on alleged violence, killings and rigging during the elections as peddled by the opposition parties, Peters said he got first-hand information from international and local observers including Journalists that covered the state that nothing of such nature was reported.

He said, ” I reliably gathered that apart from minor skirmishes in few isolated areas where opposition parties tried to cause infractions and were checked by security agencies, the process and outcome of the election had received wide applause across the state.”

“How can a group of politicians allege that people were killed on social media without any iota of evidence, no pictures, no name and the international and local observers could not authenticate that such took place during the election? He queried.

Describing the elections as most peaceful, the Cleric noted that God’s hand showed mightily in the affairs of the state in the last election by giving the people a serene atmosphere while security agencies did their best to ensure that there were no infractions.
