Sokoto State House of Assembly has passed a bill to regulate extravagant spending during marriage ceremonies.

The bill, sponsored by Faruk Balle (PDP- Gudu), and Abubakar Shehu (APC-Yabo) was earlier referred to the House Committee on Religious Affairs.

The Committee, chaired by Shehu, presented the report at plenary and was adopted by members and passed into law on Tuesday.

The marriage expenses bill seeks to regulate lavish spending in marriages, naming, circumcision and other local ceremonies in the State.

While tabling the report, the committee said it met with necessary stakeholders who made positive contributions that were captured in the bill.

After deliberations, the bill was passed by the lawmakers at the plenary presided by the Deputy Speaker, Abubakar Magaji.
