Reaching the Europa Conference League final and winning it would be “a really big deal” to West Ham fans according to Sam Delaney from the You Irons podcast.

The Hammers have one foot in the final on 7 June after Thursday’s 2-1 victory and Delaney said passion and enthusiasm towards the competition has grown among supporters.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily: “It’s huge for us to be honest.

“We haven’t won a trophy since 1980 and we haven’t been in a European final for even longer than that. Towards the end of last season we were chasing the Europa League again and we missed out on that.

“At the time, some people were thinking is the Conference League going to be a distraction. What made an impact on people’s perception was Roma winning it under Jose Mourinho and the reaction in Rome by their fans.

“That resonated with a lot of West Ham fans and this is a European trophy. Beggars can’t be choosers – we aren’t a club in finals on a regular basis.

“Slowly fans have got more and more passionate and enthusiastic and the atmosphere inside London Stadium for all of these European games has been really great.

“It’s going to be a really big deal to this fan base if we manage to get there and win it.”
