Professor Oluwadare Ojo of the University of Lagos has decried the current security situation in Nigeria, describing security as everybody’s business.

Delivering a lecture themed “Security Awareness and Consciousness as a Catalyst for Effective and Efficient Security in Kwara State” the Don advised that the government cannot do it alone.

“We should also take into cognizance that government or security agencies cannot do it alone, the issue of security in Kwara state and Nigeria is the responsibility of you and I.”

Identifying biological and environmental factors among sources of insecurity he said, “There is no 100% security in all countries of the world.”

He said children could inherit the negative attitude of parents known to be thieves while children born in certain volatile environments may also be influenced by the lifestyle of the area.

“It is of paramount importance that every individual, organizations, companies and the like should be conscious of their environment’s security,” he started.

Dr Ojo explained that unemployment, illiteracy, porous borders, and extravagant lifestyle also constitutes some sources of insecurity in the country.

In his speech, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, represented by the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, described the lecture as timely, noting that security challenges in the state were at their peak.
