The House of Representatives has threatened to hand over management of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
This is over the alleged missing N43 billion.
The notification was issued in Abuja on Monday by Rep. James Faleke, Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, during an interactive session with revenue-generating agencies.
According to data given by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), local airlines transported 16 million passengers in 2022.
It was found that international carriers transported three million passengers.
Reports have it that N1.28 trillion was made from tickets sold to overseas passengers, with N64 billion representing 5% of the total divided by the five regulatory bodies in 2022.
It was also confirmed that the ADR16 papers held by the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) revealed that local airlines transported 14,572,614 passengers in 2021.
According to the records given to the Committee, the NCAA declared N12.7 billion in revenue from the share of gross revenue allotted to industry regulating organizations.
The legislator, however, stated that the amount was less than the NCAA’s projected gross revenue share of N66 billion realized from both domestic and international travel revenues in 2022.
