A Police officer in the Rivers State Police Command, Inspector Nelson Abuante, has committed suicide after he reportedly shot dead his colleague, Monday Gbaramana.

The incident happened on Sunday at Nyogor-Lueku in the Khana Local Government Area of the state, when both officers, who were attached to the Taabaa Division of the Command, had gone to arrest a suspect in the community following a complaint by his mother.

It was gathered that trouble started when the suspect, Akere Akpobari resisted efforts to arrest him.

His resistance led to a brawl, causing Abuante to accidentally shoot Gbaramana.

Gbaramana was immediately rushed to the hospital. However, it was alleged that the vehicle conveying them to the hospital ran out of petrol, leading to his death.

Abuante, on the other hand, shot himself with his rifle after his colleague was confirmed dead.

The spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident.
