The Independence National Electoral Commission has promised to conduct a free, fair, credible, and peaceful election ahead of the February 3rd bye and rerun elections.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Bauchi State, Muhammad Nura gave the assurance while delivering a welcome address at a stakeholders meeting held at Professor Mahmood Yakubu Conference Hall, INEC state office on Thursday.
Nura said the meeting is part of the preparation for the successful conduct of the election, highlighting that the election is not different from the 2023 general election.
“All political parties that fielded candidates during the 2023 general election in these constituencies will participate in the rerun election,” he clarified.
The INEC commissioner also announced that the state office had received all non-sensitive election materials, adding that it has distributed them to the affected areas.
He hinted that “three (3) days training of ad-hoc personnel is about rounding up today simultaneously across the affected LGAs. The ad-hoc personnel are mostly members of NYSC who will work at the Polling Units.”
This, he said, followed the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security meeting which was held on Wednesday, where members of the committee pledged to provide adequate security for the election officials and materials as well as voters for peaceful elections.
Muhammad Nura said the elections will be conducted using BVAS for accreditation, authentication, and result upload to the IReV.
