The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has restricted vehicular movement from 12 am to 6 pm in states where the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is conducting by-elections.

DAILY POST reports that the electoral umpire had scheduled February 3 for by-elections in 26 states.

The statement issued on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, exempted those rendering essential services, like INEC officials, staff of accredited media, and emergency responders.

Egbetokun also banned security aides to VIPs from polling booths across the 26 states.

He also ordered that all state-owned security outfits be banned from election security management, saying the move was to prevent interference.

Emphasising the commitment to a secure electoral process, the IGP urged responsible conduct and warned of legal consequences for disruptions.
