The Federal Government has commenced payment of the seized salaries of public university lecturers under the aegis of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

Comrade Nobert Oyibo Eze, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka branch Chairman of ASUU confirmed the development to DAILY POST.

“Yes, they have started paying. Even though I’m yet to receive mine, some of our lecturers have received two months’ payments out of the outstanding eight months’ withheld salary,” Eze said.

He confirmed that two months’ salaries have been paid to him out of the eight months owed him.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu Tinubu had in October 2023 approved the release of four of the eight months’ ASUU withheld salaries of the workers.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari had invoked a ‘No Work, No Pay policy’ against ASUU for embarking on a strike that lasted eight months in 2022.
