A 30-year-old man, Ugochukwu Eze, was on Thursday arraigned before a Lugbe Grade I Area Court, Abuja for allegedly stealing barbed wire valued at N2 million from a football field barricade.

The police charged the defendant, who resides in the Durumi 2 area of Abuja with mischief and theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr S.O. Osho, had earlier informed the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on February 18.

Osho said the case was reported by one Usman Haruna of Area 3, Garki, at the Garki Police Station, Abuja.

He alleged that the defendant entered into a football field and mischievously stole the barbed wire on the barricade to the football field.

Osho told the court that during a police investigation, some of the wires were allegedly recovered from the defendant.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Judge, Malam Aliyu Kagarko, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N3 million with one surety in like sum.

The judge adjourned the case until March 16 for further hearing.
