The member representing Umuahia North state constituency in Abia State House of Assembly, who also doubles as the chairman of the House Committee on Public Petitions, Hon Anderson Akaliro, has said that the governor of the state, Alex Otti, is truly on a mission to rescue the state.
Akaliro arrived at his conclusion based on the numerous road projects being executed by the Governor Otti administration in the state, including the planned rehabilitation of the Okpara road as contained in the 2024 budget, which he stated points to the fact the governor is truly on a mission to rescue Abia.
Addressing newsmen on the deteriorating state of public infrastructure across the state and in Ohuhu in particular, the lawmaker expressed his willingness to partner the state government and other relevant stakeholders to address the level of decay in the system.
He observed that the educational and health sectors are the most affected in his constituency; the lawmaker noted that he has come up with some programmes aimed at providing accessible and quality education for Ndi Ohuhu.
On healthcare service, Akaliro said he is collaborating with Governor Otti’s administration to make the health care system in Ohuhu more responsive to the needs of the people, even as he announced plans to hold a free medical outreach in various health centers in Ohuhu.
He revealed that he has also concluded plans to provide farmers in the constituency with modern farming implements, in addition to orientating them on modern farming practices.
He lamented the state of Ofeme Technical School, recently razed by an inferno, calling for all hands to be on deck towards rebuilding and rehabilitating the school.
He added that he had almost concluded plans to commence the sinking of mono-pump water boreholes across public schools in Ohuhu to alleviate the plights of students occasioned by absence of boreholes in the area.
Akaliro also explained that plans are on-going on the production of uniforms for students in his constituency, as well as other learning materials.
He informed that he has been consulting with relevant state and constituency stakeholders on the rehabilitation of Ulonna North and South Farm Settlement in the Ohuhu ring road, as well as the Ohuhu Regional Water Scheme.
The Umuahia North lawmaker used the opportunity to explain that the three arms of government are working in harmony in the state, adding, “Father and son relationship exists between Otti and the members of the state House of Assembly, party affiliation not minding. I am urging our governor to increase the good works he is doing in the state.”
