The Federal Government has confirmed the appointment of Dr. Uzoma Friday Ibeaja has been appointed as the new Acting Rector of Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri.
Ibeaja’s appointment came following the expiration of the tenure of Christopher Onyemenonu as Acting Rector of the Polytechnic on 10th of March, 2024.
The announcement was made in a release signed and made available to our reporter by the school’s Public Relations Officer, Nwosu Ever Bezz.
According to Nwosu, “in a letter Ref. Dte/Poly/1073/C.1/T/1/42, dated 22nd March, 2024, the Honourable Minister of Education appointed Dr. Ibeaja Uzoma Friday as the Acting Rector of the Institution with effect from March 11, 2024. He would remain the Acting Rector pending the appointment of a substantive Rector in line with the Polytechnic Act as amended”.
He noted that “before his appointment, Dr. Ibeaja Uzoma Friday was the Acting Rector (Administration) of the Polytechnic. He had also served the Polytechnic at different capacities, majorly among them include: Dean, School of Business and Management Technology (SDMT) and Director of Evening Programme. Also, he was the Chairman of Academic Staff Union of the Polytechnic (ASUP), Nekede Polytechnic Chapter from 2012 to 2016”.
“The new Acting Rector has resumed duty and the Polytechnic community is wishing him well”, Nwosu said.
