The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maj-Gen. Hassan Dada, has said that most members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) are escapees from the 2021 Owerri, Imo State jail break.

The Commander of the Joint Task Force (South East), Operation Udo Ka, who made the disclosure to defence correspondents on a media tour of the theatre, said a lot of operational gains had been recorded in the last few months.

Specifically, the senior officer declared that the division, through robust engagements with relevant stakeholders, ended Monday’s stay-at-home order by the IPOB, thereby restoring the glory of the South East geo-political zone.

His words: “These people (IPOB) , most of them, are those that escaped during the Owerri jailbreak. “They are the people masquerading as IPOB. “That is the reality. We will leave no stone unturned to make sure we restore the glory that the South East is known for.

“We will continue to work with all the security agencies; we will continue to work with all the state governments and most especially the media, to tell our story.” Meanwhile, the division has announced that a total of 6191 arms, ammunition were recovered in three months, even as 183 clearance operations were conducted during the period under review.
