In a coordinated operation involving various security agencies, the Nigerian Army successfully neutralized an Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) expert affiliated with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Orsu – Ihitteukwa, Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State.

Troops from the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Nigerian Police, Department of State Services, and the Nigerian Securities and Civil Defence Corps conducted a clearance operation in areas including Udaah, Identa Ihitteukwa, and Awo Idemili in Orsu LGA.

Encountering the dissidents, who engaged them with gunfire and hand-held IEDs, the troops pressed forward. During the exchange, the dissidents triggered several IEDs but were ultimately forced to retreat. One dissident was neutralized while in the process of setting up an explosive device.

Recovered items included locally made rocket launchers, defused IEDs, and materials used in manufacturing explosives. Additionally, the troops cleared ditches used as road obstacles by ESN elements in the area.

Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, army spokesman, emphasized the Nigerian Army’s commitment to maintaining security and preventing the activities of groups like IPOB and ESN. The operation underscores the ongoing efforts to curb insurgency and ensure peace and stability in Imo State and beyond.
